THE DOXIE THAT COULD!

A three year old vibrant loving Dachshund jumps off the couch and injures her spine. This is a familiar story with the breed. Her name is Sabrett and before this she went everywhere with her family. They were faced with the decision to get her an expensive spinal surgery that only offers a 50% chance of her ever walking again, or to put her to sleep. The family felt they owed it to her, for all the joy she had given them, to give her a chance with the surgery, but she still could't walk.  After a year of trying different methods to get her to walk, they were unsuccessful. The stress of seeing their loved one not being able to control her bowels, not being able to enjoying life, and having to live in confinement, became overwhelming, and they opted to surrender her to a friend Stacy Narcisse.

In the care of her foster Mother and her thirteen year old Doxie, this crippled Doxie found her will to live. She was given free run of the house and was treated as “normal” not disabled dog. With in a few months of alternative therapies like Massage and Acupressure with regular laps in the pool, she began to gain stability with her hind legs, instead of dragging them behind her. Before long running was no longer a challenge but controlling her bowels was so we took her to Dr. Gerald Johnson for Holistic Treatment. Sabrett was able to gain more control. Then Sabrett's foster mom was able to list Sabrett for adoption via Chihuahua Toy Breed Rescue and Retirement Inc.

Before the victorious Doxie completed her total of eight months of rehabilitation, she was successfully adopted and now living in her forever home. She now has inspired her family to volunteer with their local Florida Dachshund Rescue. Sabrett’s Mom, Bree shares that “adopting a dog with problems takes more patience but in the end, you have an even more special connection.”
