Babaji was one of twelve dogs rescued from a breeder that has now closed down. Get A Life Pet Rescue was able to take five and they all needed dental cleanings and teeth extractions. Their teeth were so bad most likely due to eating their own waste to survive. It is common for an unethical breeder to feed the dogs just enough to survive. In Babaji’s situation there were several dogs in one crate and most of them have scratch marks on one or both of their eyes from fights! These scratches form scar tissue and leave the dog with little or no vision.
Some dogs like Aliza (with www.chesed-rescue.org) had to have her eye removed due to a major infection that was left untreated for months after a dog fight by the breeder!
Babaji is seven years old and has several congenital (genetic) problems he has been living and breeding with. One male stud can impregnate hundreds of females if given access to fertile females. In Babaji’s case he impregnated dozens of females over his years passing on all or some of his congenital defects! His tri-color toy Pomeranian puppies were sold for $3000 each via the breeders online site! Some of his pups were sold to puppy stores to be resold again. They were sold to people that have no clue that even though the pups parents are “pedigree/AKC” the dad, Babaji, has an enlarged heart, lung problems, deformed shoulder leaving one leg noticeably longer than the other and three out of four knees are luxating (kneecap moves)! Luxating Patella is common in small dogs, now a days, due to poor breeding and inter-breeding relatives. For unethical breeders to mate Mother and Son or any two related tiny ones to get even smaller ones, now referred to as “TEA CUP PUP ”. Tea Cup means RUNT and the runt of a litter acording to Wikipedia states “Backyard breeders often come under fire for the rearing of unusually small dogs of toy breeds, which most dog clubs condemn as deliberately perpetuating runts that may incur future health complications and expensive veterinary care.”
Thus we have our Babaji who’s heart condition was not detected by stethoscope but by x-ray. During the second x-ray weeks later from a different angle the lung issue was detected! Through all the tests and vet visits Babaji has remained happy and kissy!
We do get veterinary discounts but its not free or even half the regular fees! We are continuously doing events to raise funds for unknown situations. Once a dog is in our care we do what ever it takes to get them as healthy as possible for adoption. Our current cost for Babaji’s care is just under a thousand dollars!
Hey! Hey! Don’t be sad for Babaji he was saved! He is getting the medical care he needs! He has also been adopted by Debbie one of our volunteers! So now Babaji has a Chihuahua sister named Snuggles and they get to experience life together with a loving Mom!
